Dear Identity Theory Readers,
This week, we have a smashing new flash fiction story called “Demolition” from repeat contributor Will Musgrove.
Here’s a clip:
I love smashing stuff. As a kid, I’d throw my toys against the walls and stomp on them. I’d hide the pieces under my bed so as not to get in trouble, only retrieving them at night to admire their jagged edges. My dad would always find them and glue them back together, but they never looked the same. They’d be whole but still possessed all their sharp angles. I was one of those toys.

New Micro Staff Openings
We’re soliciting and publishing more flash and microfiction these days, so we’re creating a new volunteer staff position for a Flash & Microfiction Editor.
We’re also seeking a new Visuals Editor to evaluate art & photography submissions and potentially work on graphics and video for the site.
If you or someone you know may be interested in these positions, read the full details on our website or Submittable.
A Micro Dog with Big Dreams
This week’s Ampydoo cartoon:
No Negatives, Only Zeroes
Past contributor Bethany Jarmul wrote a guest post for
that exemplifies a winning mindset for submissions:I started to see submissions as a numbers game. In order to win the game, I needed to submit aggressively and without fear. Rejections were not a “negative one” in the game. They were simply zeros. They were merely neutral. As I continued to gain confidence as a writer and realized that rejections didn’t matter, then I stopped self-rejecting. I started submitting widely, including more prestigious mags because I wasn’t afraid of rejections. In fact, I still don’t track rejections. Once I receive a rejection, I simply remove that submission from my active submissions list. It’s as if it never existed.

And that’s the tiny bit of news we have for you this week. Thank you for reading.

I took a submissions strategy class Bethany offered earlier this year (and also read the piece you linked to over on Becky's community) and I have to say: Bethany is such an encouraging gem of a writer and person. I have revamped my sub strategy due to her, and I am so grateful.
